Christian Krekels, set of two coffee tables, brass, enamelled steel, Belgium, 1970s
Admirable coffee tables with square tabletop in ornamented brass by belgium desiger Christian Krekels. These luxurious and refined coffee tables feature an etched brass tabletop and robust, dramatic black legs. The etched top shows a pattern of lines with one accent details on which also his signature is added. Krekels treated the surface in different ways to assure a unique expression.
In the 1970s the classical technique of etching was highly applied on designs for decorative arts and furniture design, a trend that arose in Brussels. Key-designers were Aldo Chale, Georges Mathias, Willy Daro and Lova Creation and Jean Claude Dresse and Christian Krekels worked in this style too. Their style was characterized by the use of gemstones as decorative element and the use of golden brass as primary color.
Christian Krekels (1942-) is an expressive Belgian sculptor. Following his studies at the Institut des Arts Saint-Luc in Tournai, Krekels firstly focused his work on diamonds.
