Osvaldo Borsani for Tecno, conference table T334-C, aluminum and wood, Italy, 1975-1978.

Round dining table with a round top. The base consists out of a three-legged metal frame which creates an open character. It was at the time that founder and key designer Osvaldo Borsani was put in charge of the company and the day to day running was left in the hands of the architect Marco Fantoni and other designers. This creation of the 'Centro Progetti Tecno' was a decision made to present future designs of the company as a group creation, not as the result of the creative mind of one single designer.

Ico Parisi for MIM Roma, set of six swivel armchairs, rosewood, metal, leather, Italy, 1960s

Swivel chairs by Ico Parisi from the 'Terni' series by MIM Roma. The seating and back shell consists out of curved rosewood which hold the black leather cushions. The desk chairs have armrests. Besides they are adjustable in their height.

MIM Roma (Mobili Italiani Moderni) was founded in 1958 by Ennio Fazioli, who was at that time just 28 years old. When the first showroom opened, the display was designed by Ico Parisi who worked for the manufacturer until 1960. At the time that MIM was founded, spirits were high: scientific and technological discoveries would catalyse growth and modernity. Fazioli believed that everybody deserved beautiful, modern design. MIM moved towards a certain lightness and rationalisation that borrowed from Nordic and American aesthetics yet with a true Italian elegance. The resulting collection from MIM is therefore a combination of 'refined linearity with a sober opulence: a typically Italian matching of simplicity with the exceptional'.

Ico Parisi (1916-1996) is one of the pioneers who helped shape postwar Italian design. Parisi is now known for fluent, curved and delicate simplified modern design. In Italy, reform took place not in a new institute such as the Bauhaus, but in the sophisticated upperclass private spaces. Here paths cross of Ponti, Campigli, Melotti and also Ico and his wife Luisa. At the age of twenty Parisi graduates from the Istituto Tecnico G. Castellini as an Industrial Head Technician. According to Parisi himself, his first design dates from this date. He also starts to work as a painter and photographer before he had to work as a soldier in the war. His life really starts after the war when he meets his wife Luisa Aiani. From here onwards his designs are recognized and exhibited and he starts to collaborate with MIM Roma in 1958 and Stildomus in 1959. In the 1970s Parisi designs many architectural projects under the concept of a new way of living. Tecno was founded in 1953 by Osvaldo and Fulgenzio Borsani. The core thought on which the company was found on the idea that Dwellings function as the fundament on which the quality of life is built. Although Tecno was led by functionalism, aesthetics have never been unimportant. Technique the tool that led to typological innovation. The office world experience an extreme growth in postwar Italy and it was mainly to this world that Tecno dedicated their innovative design and craftsmanship.
