Osvaldo Borsani for Tecno, P40 lounge chair, original brown fabric, metal, Italy, 1955.
This lounge chair has been the result of the relentless search for an armchair that facilitated maximum relaxation. This search was in line with other modernist architects of that time who in their turn tried to design the perfect lounge chair. The piece was first presented as being 'A New Armchair' and it was made clear that although this armchair occupied a normal amount of space, it offered all the reclining possibilities of the most comfortable armchairs. The P40 has become the ideological manifesto of Borsani's Tecno program, and still remains the best known, exemplary piece in the Tecno catalogue.
