Osvaldo Borsani for Tecno, 'Canada' lounge chair, leather and plywood, Italy, 1960s.
The 'Canada' chair is composed of two sides made of moulded plywood connected by two contoured solid wood crosspieces. Upholstered in original high quality cognac leather which shows a nice patina. The Canada series was developed from some rough initial sketches by Valeria Borsani and Marco Fantoni while they were still young university students. When Osvaldo Borsani saw these designs, he invited the budding designers to develop their idea. However, after they made a few uncertain attempts, Borsani took the project in hand and completely reworked it, instilling his own particular character into it.
Tecno was founded in 1953 by Osvaldo and Fulgenzio Borsani. The core thought on which the company was found on the idea that Dwellings function as the fundament on which the quality of life is built. Although Tecno was led by functionalism, aesthetics have never been unimportant. Technique the tool that led to typological innovation. The office world experience an extreme growth in post-war Italy and it was mainly to this world that Tecno dedicated their innovative design and craftsmanship.
