Norman Bel Geddes, set of two lounge chairs, fabric, beech, United States, designed in 1949

Set of two easy chairs designed by the American Industrial designer Norman Bel Geddes (1893-1958). In his book 'Horizons' (1932) he describes his design philosophy of Streamlining which resulted in the eponymous design style of the 1930s. These slipper chairs are a wonderful example of his style executed in furniture design. The thick seats and backrests are teardrop shaped, a form he believed was superior. Resting on four tapered, conical legs. The design is simplistic with sharp lines.
