Nanna Ditzel, set of six ND150 Badminton chairs, chromed tubular steel, red velvet fabric and white painted wood, Denmark, design 1958, production 1960s. This set of chairs by Nanna Ditzel and Jørgen Ditzel was designed in 1958. They were originally designed for the Glostrup County Hospital near Copenhagen where they were to placed in the auditorium. It was a requirement that the chair should be stackable and connectable in rows, which are both qualities of the ND150. The fact that these chairs have the functional qualities make them suited for large (public) spaces. This set consists of six pieces without armrests. The seat and backrest are executed as a laminated shell and the construction is made of tubular steel. We have more chairs in stock like these featuring a different fabric and two of them have armrests. Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) was a cabinetmaker and became a furniture designer in 1946, and worked together with her husband Jørgen Ditzel (1921-1961). Nanna Ditzel was a designer who was focused on the use, need and function of furniture. Her style is therefore very approachable and useful but at times also bold and experimental. Ditzel made use of innovative techniques and materials.
