Mogens Voltelen for cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, lounge chair model 'Københavnerstol', beech, brown leather, Denmark, 1936.
This Copenhagen lounge chair is designed by Mogens Voltelen. Classic early edition in which the armrests are attached to the sides of the backrest. The chair shows beautiful lines in the aged beech. This can especially be seen on the arched legs. The leather strap armrests make a nice mirrored line to the curved legs. This sculptural lounge chair is covered in cognac saddle leather with furniture nails. The design is inspired on classical Spanish folk chairs in addition of Danish modern elements. This chair was produced by Niels Vodder. Vodder often worked together with designer Finn Juhl. The cognac leather on this chair shows a deep, rich patina on the leather. Please be aware that the original leather is still present on this piece, which makes it into a truly unique item.
Danish architect and furniture designer Mogens Voltelen (1908-1995) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He worked together with Vilhelm Lauritzen and Poul Henningsen. In 1928, Voltelen opened his own office and worked at a professor from 1959 until 1978.
