Mogens Koch for Ivan Schlechter, 'Kamin' living room set consisting of one sofa and pair of armchairs, model MK51, mahogany, leather, Denmark, design 1936, manufactured after 1951
Mogens Koch's 'Kamin' living room set is inspired by Kaare Klint's furniture design, which in turn is inspired by English furniture tradition. The lounge chairs and sofa first came into production in 1951, fifteen years later after Koch designed these pieces. The seat is constructed in a classic way of which the back runs over into the armrests in a curvaceous movement. While the base is composed of a wooden frame with an open construction that adds extra air and transparency to the quite solid seat. This unconventional composition of shapes is visually interesting and testifies to Koch's eccentric way of thinking about furniture design.
Mogens Koch (1898-1993) was a Danish architect, furniture-designer, teacher and typographer. Koch studied under Kaare Klint and always challenged the complexity of materials and designs. He is known for his functional, comfortable yet highly aesthetic designs.
Please note that the leather is in good, used condition.
