Mats Theselius for Källemo Ab Pair of Armchairs in Leather and Aluminum
Mats Theselius for Källemo AB, pair of armchairs limited edition, matt aluminum, beech, leather, birch, Sweden, 1990.
This distinct design of Mats Theselius features a body of aluminum on four sculptural feet. The founder of manufacturer Källemo, Sven Lundh, suggested to reconsider the legs of the first edition. Therefore, this chair feature more chubby, kneaded buns of legs with a characteristic classicist touch in cast aluminum. The round form is finished on top with a bent piece of beech or birch that follows the curve. Seat and backrest are made out of braided leather with a remarkable patina that shows beautiful colors. Moreover, a strong contrast is discernible between the wood and metal. Generally, Mats Theselius is known for his a-typical designs, most of them produced in limited editions and all them manufactured by Källemo Sweden. This functional and aesthetic piece is another great example of his style and inventiveness with bold shapes and materials. On the bottom is an etched metal plate stating: "Aluminium Fätölj No: HC X/XV Mats Theselius 1990 Källemo AB". This chair is number 10 out of a series of 15 chairs part of a limited edition, and was part of Theselius his private collection. The second chair has an etched metal plate saying "Aluminium Fätölj 90/200 Mats Theselius 1990 Källemo AB".
