Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova, Saratoga living room set, black lacquered wood and red leather, Italy, 1964.

This living room set named 'Sartoga' is designed by Italian designer couple Lella & Massimo Vignelli. The Vignelli's were known for their clear designs, this piece is therefore also completely free from decorative details. All attention goes to the essential form and material in this design by Vignelli. The “Saratoga” is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in 20th century. In their own words: “We have designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa wanted was one with an architectural character rather that a soft, smooth object. A sofa that could be set out in the middle of the room. We didn’t want it to be pushed up against the walls; we wanted it to move around as needed.”

We have multiple pieces by Vignelli and can provide upholstery and different colors of the frame according to your own wishes. The leather on this piece shows signs of age and use, but is still in good condition. If you are interested to reupholster these pieces, our in-house atelier would gladly customize the pieces following your own wishes. The professional and experienced craftsmen in our in-house atelier are specialists in the re-upholstery of design furniture. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value.
