Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova, 'Saratoga' three-seat sofas, polyester lacquer, red leather, Italy, 1964

This three-seat sofas named 'Saratoga' is designed by Italian designer couple Lella and Massimo Vignelli. The Vignelli's were known for their clear designs, this piece is therefore also completely free of decorative details. All attention goes to the essential form and material in this design by Vignelli. The 'Saratoga' is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in twentieth century. In the designers words: “We have designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa wanted was one with an architectural character rather that a soft, smooth object. A sofa that could be set out in the middle of the room. We didn’t want it to be pushed up against the walls; we wanted it to move around as needed.”

The lacquer and the leather of this piece show signs of age and use. Scratches are visible. Please note that the item is in good, used condition. Reupholstery and restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come.

Please note that the price is per item.
