Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova 'Saratoga' Two-Seater Sofa

Sale price$11,800.00

Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova, 'Saratoga' two-seat sofa, polyester lacquered wood, leather, Italy, 1964.

This two-seat sofa named 'Saratoga' is designed by Italian designer couple Lella & Massimo Vignelli. The Vignelli's were known for their clear designs, this piece is therefore also completely free from decorative details. All attention goes to the essential form and material in this design by Vignelli. The “Saratoga” is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in twentieth century. In their own words: “We have designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa we wanted was one with an architectural character rather than a soft, smooth object. A sofa that could be set out in the middle of the room. We didn’t want it to be pushed up against the walls; we wanted it to move around as needed.”

Kindly note that the piece is in good, used condition. There are small scratches in the lacquer, along with a few larger wear marks. The leather has developed a patina. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized restoration is possible as well.
