Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova 'Saratoga' Light Table
Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova, 'Saratoga' light table / cabinet, polyester lacquer, Italy, 1964
This cubic shaped table is introduced as 'Saratoga'. This piece of furniture is extremely rare and thus hard to find at the moment. The Vignelli's were known for their clear designs, this table is therefore also completely free of decorative details. All attention goes to the essential form and material in this design by Vignelli. The construction is based on a cubic shape with its right-angled corners and straight lines. The table is highly functional as it can be used for various purposes. This piece contains built-in shelves that allows the user to hide its belongings by putting them behind the doors. Another remarkable feature, when the lamp is turned on, the top will lighten up, creating a lively and cozy ambiance in the evening hours. This table cabinet holds an utterly well-balanced construction concealing a great sense of proportions. The 'Saratoga' is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in twentieth century.
