Marco Zanuso for Arflex, pair of reupholstered lounge chairs, fabric, metal, Italy, 1950s
An icon of 1950s’ Italian Design, the 'Lady' armchair is appreciated for its contemporary construction, a symbol of innovation supreme, in terms of style, materials, and technology. It was the first that discovered the aesthetic possibilities made available by Pirelli's new foam rubber and elastic products. Working with soft curves and lightness were ideal with the use of this material and were in line with the modern streamlined aesthetic.
The chair was awarded the Gold Medal at the IX Milan Triennale, in 1951.
The pair of armchairs has been fully restored and reupholstered in a high quality blue mohair by the experienced craftsmen in our in-house atelier.
