Luigi Pellegrin for MIM Roma, modular sofa, velvet, metal, polyester, Italy, 1950s.
This versatile lounge set by Luigi Pellegrin consists of one regular element and two corner elements. A highly versatile piece of furniture that allows you to create different compositions. The construction of the base is what makes this sofa so unique and visually convincing, as it is based on trapezoid planes that together form a hourglass, yet sharp and angular in its execution. The sofa is executed in red velvet that has a soft, bright surface.
MIM Roma was founded by Ico Parisi (1916-1996) with the intention of integrating visual arts with furniture design. Parisi functioned both as designer and creative director and he collaborated with new visionary designers such as Luigi Pellegrin (1925-2001). MIM produced furniture that incorporated new innovations and materials and became a big player in the postmodern Italian design world.
