Louis Kalff for Philips, desk lamp ‘Romeo’, metal, the Netherlands, 1960s

Beautiful desk lamp by Dutch architect and designer Louis Kalff. He is known for his lamp designs for the Dutch company Philips. In the 1950s Kalff designed a series of lights for this company. Also the ‘Romeo’ table lamp is part of Kalff's designs. The way the disk-shaped metal shade in a grey color is hold by a diagonal adjusted stem catches the eye. The round black base shows the Philips label. Due to the design of the shade with a circular gap on top the light bulb not only shines downwards but the light is also shining upwards.
