Large Set of Eighteen Duo Tone 'Medea' Dining Chairs by Vittorio Nobili
Vittorio Nobili for Tagliabue, set of 18 dining chairs 'Medea', birch mahogany, brass and metal, Italy, 1955.
This 'Medea' chair is designed by the Italian designer Vittorio Nobili. The plywood chairs are veneered in carefully chosen birch in the front and mahogany in the back, which gives them their warm appearance. The mahogany shows an admirable grain which gives these chairs even more character. The shell of the seat is bent and shows a whole at the bottom of the chairs which give them a certain lightness and creates a lively yet simplistic character. Vittorio Nobili won the Industrial Design Award Compasso d’Oro in 1956 for this particular design.
The wooden seat is in good condition and show signs of age and use, with light scratches in the lacquer.
