Large Jean Claude Dresse Etched Brass Inlayed with Agate Coffee Table
Jean Claude Dresse, coffee table, brass, steel and agate, Belgium, circa 1970.
A luxurious round cocktail table, crafted with high attention for detail which is characteristic for the work of the Belgian artist Jean Claude Dresse. The piece is sculptural and consists of brass elements with etched details. The round top is inlayed with pieces of agate, which emphasizes its rich appearance.
The use of an almost architectural base in brushed steel lifts the tabletop in a way, which gives this heavy and sturdy table an interesting feeling of lightness. The table is completely handmade and almost a sculpture itself.
Signed on the side of the tabletop. This pieces comes with a "Certificate of Authenticity".
In the 1970s a trend of decorative arts arose in Brussels. Key-designers were Aldo Chale, Georges Mathias, Willy Daro and Lova Creation. Their style was characterized by the use of gemstones as decorative element and the use of gold as primary color. The classical technique of etching was highly applied on their designs for coffee and cocktail tables.
