Kwok Hoi Chan Cow Hide Tubular Chair for Steiner Paris
Kwok Hoi Chan for Steiner, lounge chair, cow hide, tubular steel, France, 1969.
This extraordinary lounge chair by Kwok Hoi Chan is produced by Steiner, Paris. What marks this design is the frame made of tubular steel, covered with a beautiful hide.
Kwok Hoi Chan (1920-1990) was an emblematic figure of international design who emigrated from Hong Kong to England and France. In France, he paired up with the Parisian manufacturer Steiner. Even though Kwok Hoi Chan was deeply invested in European and international design he has always stayed loyal to his Chinese origins. His furniture resembles an imaginary alphabet borrowed from Chinese calligraphy. His trademark is a suspended tubular frame which is combined with an organic shaped seating, in this case the spectacular hide.
