Josep Torres Clave Armchairs in Oak and Cane
Josep Torres Clave, set of 2 armchairs, oak and cane, Spain, 1950s.
This set of armchairs by Josep Torres Clave have an oak frame and its seat and back upholstered in woven cane. The design is functionalistic, yet rustic. The armrests are slightly pointed upwards and are relatively long, which is a nice detail. The backrest is slightly tilted for extra comfort. The chairs would look great in a patio or garden.
Josep Torres Clave started as a designer with his contributions with the prototypes of furniture designed for the homes of relatives and for his own residence. These modern furniture elements were promoted from 1935 in the store MIDVA, together with J.L. Sert and A. Bonet, with the aim of promoting new designs with standardizable solutions, where the most economical materials were used for the application of new solutions in architecture.
