Jens Risom lounge chair with ottoman, in American walnut and bamboo fabric, United States 1960s.
This lounge chair with ottoman in walnut presents an open arm frame. This lounge chair and ottoman have a walnut frame and upholstered fabric with bamboo designs, which is all in great condition. This design is made by the detail of the pointy armrests that provide a sharp, vibrant touch. Besides that, the chairs feature Classic traits such as the buttoned back and the tapered legs. Modest, subtle yet anything but boring.
Jens Risom (1916-2016) was a Danish born Designer who moved to the United States and introduced Danish modern design. When Jens Risom moved to New York, he met Hans Knoll, which was the beginning of an extraordinary collaboration. Together, Knoll and Risom, brought a fresh new style to the interiors of offices and homes of North America. Risom was the first designer who worked for Knoll. As Hans Knoll's business started while the United States entered the Second World War, Risom was put to the Challenge of finding factories and workshops which didn't qualify for war production. In fact in the 650 line, rejected parachute straps we're inserted. Shortly after Risom's production of the 650 line, he joined the military service as a translator. When Risom came back to Knoll, the company completely changed under the influence of Florence Knoll. Jens Risom decided then that it was his time to leave and begin his new practice, Jens Risom Design.
