Jean Rispal Floor Lamp in Oak and White Canvas
Jean Rispal, floor lamp from the Formes Nouvelles series, model 14.496, oak veneer, lacquered wood, coated steel, canvas, brass, France, early 1950s
Designed by the in-house design team of the French lighting company Jean Rispal, this floor lamp was part of the Formes Nouvelles collection established in the early 1950s. The models drew inspiration from the principles of Scandinavian design, while some suggest an influence from the works of artist Jean Arp (1886-1966). This avant-garde series gave architects and interior designers the chance to craft their unique visions. A wide spectrum of choices awaited customers, ranging from opaline to sanded and milky glass, lampshades, and wooden components. The varied combinations could accommodate the tastes of a broad spectrum of clients. The conical white glass lampshade is supported by three sleek black lacquered legs. A noteworthy feature is the oak veneer plate, designed to function as a convenient side table for placing beverages, just like shown on the catalog documentation of that period.
