Janni Van Pelt Coffee Table in Metal and Glass
Janni Van Pelt for Bas Van Pelt, coffee table, glass, metal, Netherlands, 1958.
This is a rare rectangular coffee table is designed by Janni Van Pelt for Bas Van Pelt. The table is made from reinforced glass with delicate tapered legs and a black lacquered metal frame. The table is the height of minimalism in materials and aesthetics, a functionalism born of the Bauhaus. What is most interesting about this table is the way in which the legs are placed. They are placed off center and are not symmetrical, but in fact this contributes to the almost monumental appearance of this piece.
