Desk, pine, Italy, 1980s.
Italian writing desk executed in a natural pine wood, made in the 1980s. The outer frame of the thick tabletop holds evenly spaced square openings that add a graphic and structural surface to the unit. This pattern is enlarged and stretched in the base, a grid that gained popularity among artists in the seventies, such as Gianfranco Frattini and Gae Aulenti, and, not to forget, the Italian esteemed cabinet maker Pierluigi Ghianda that was known for making pieces of furniture based on this layout. Above the grid pattern a glass table top is placed. Extra storage space is available through a removable small cabinet that is placed underneath the table top.
