A charming set of dining chairs made in Italy and dating back to the 1940s. The backrest of this design is where its character really comes alive. It is made up of three horizontal slats, each contributing a different rhythm to the composition, but it is the top one that instantly catches the eye. Carved in a distinctive scalloped pattern, a series of rounded, cloud-like curves, the top rail feels ornamental. It adds a playful, almost naive charm, softening the otherwise simple silhouette of the chair. The uprights of the chairs – those two vertical members that rise from the rear legs to support the backrest – are gently curved and subtly tapered.
