Hvidt & Mølgaard Nielsen for Søborg Møbelfabrik Cabinets in Teak
Peter Hvidt & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen for Søborg Møbelfabrik, cabinet, teak, Denmark, 1950s.
Unique formation of conforming cabinets executed in solid teak designed by the Danish designers Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen. It convinces both visual and functional, as characteristic for Danish mid-century design. It offers a variety of different storage possibilities. The clean and open layout of the top cabinets allow to showcase objects to one's taste. Two lower door cabinets are placed next to a dresser and contain multiple shelves and drawers. The high-quality craftsmanship is notable in the details as the hemisphere wooden handles. Moreover, the joinery on this piece is very well made, as is visible in the dovetail joineries on the outer corners of the lower cabinets. The warm colors of the teak may differ between the three cabinets, which can be easily treated to unify the tones of the wood.
Danish designer duo Peter Hvidt (1916-1986) and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen (1907-1993) worked together between 1944-1975. The couple, originally trained as architects, designed around 250 furniture objects.
