Gunnar Asplund for ASEA, pair of large wall lamps model '641', colored glass, metal, Sweden, 1930s
Swedish architect Gunnar Asplund (1885-1940) designed originally for outdoor use intended lamps model 641 in the 1930s. With a diameter of 54 cm (21.26 in.) the lights have an impressive size. A polygonal metal fixture with long arm holds the delicate glass shade in place. Where the metal ring surrounds the glass is where the cylindrical shade widens and gets smaller again. The soft pink glass is still the original, mouth blown glass. It is vividly textured with bulbs of different sizes.
Please note that the metal shows patina that contributes to the value of the piece.
