Guillerme & Chambron 'Simon' Sideboard in Black Stained Oak
Guillerme et Chambron, sideboard model ‘Simon’, black stained oak and ceramic, France, 1960s.
This mischievous sideboard mirrors the European Gothic Revival period of the nineteenth century by means of the heavy black stained wood. The design seamlessly blends with any interior bringing the old antiquated ambience into your home. The whole construction is solidly built showing the typical characteristics of the designer duo Guillerme et Chambron, par example the graphic pattern of carved lines on the sliding door panels and the scalloped legs. Functionality comes into play through the availability of great amount of storage space created by four extended drawers and one long compartment equipped with a shelve. The combination of color and specific design characteristics underline the essence of the design, resulting in a bold, luxurious cabinet with a wink to the Medieval Ages.
The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production postwar. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of these machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home”.
