Guillerme et Chambron, pair of lounge chairs, oak, beige upholstery, France, 1950s.

This set of two lounge chairs or loveseats have a classic Guillerme & Chambron style. It is bulky but beautifully made, with attention to detail and comfort. Guillerme and Chambron are known for their high quality solid oak furniture, from which this is another great example. Note the wide, curved slatted back, tiny armrests and the round knobs that stick out from the armrest and that belong to the legs. The legs are also characteristically, the carved triangle at the bottom turns these chairs into a sculptural piece. The chairs are upholstered in a beige fabric, which is in good condition. The oak shows an admirable patina.

The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production postwar. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of these machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means 'Your home'.
