Guillerme et Chambron, corner desk, stained oak, France, 1950s
Corner desk by French designer duo Guillerme and Chambron. This executive desk shows the fine craftsmanship that characterizes the work of this designer duo. The desk consists out of two parts: A tabletop that is adjusted to a cabinet with plenty of storage space. Drawers and an open shelf is joined by a hidden shelf at the side that can be opened downwards. The tabletop is on the same height as the cabinet section. Features like the pull-out leaf that extends the table makes this rare table highly functional and versatile in its use.
The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production postwar. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of these machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home.”
