Guillerme & Chambron Solid Oak Lounge Chairs with Checked Fabric
Lounge chairs oak, with a checked white and yellow colored upholstery by Guillerme et Chambron, France, 1960s.
Guillerme and Chambron are known for their high quality solid oak furniture, from which this is another great example. These chairs has a very interesting shape, the legs and armrests blend over into each other creating a gap between the seat and the armrest. With this design it still keeps it's solid expression, but does create an open look. The curved slatted back makes an elegant addition to the angular design.
The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production postwar. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of these machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home.”
The frame of these chairs is very sculptural with extravagant shapes which can provide either a very elegant or rough expression, depending on their location and upholstery. This chair is upholstered in checked white and yellow color fabric, which is in good condition. May you prefer another color, reupholstery is possible.
