Guillerme & Chambron Carved Oak High Back Chair
Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron, lounge chair, green beige fabric with purple buttons, France, 1960s.
Guillerme and Chambron are known for their high quality solid oak furniture, of which this lounge chair is another great example. This chair has an interesting, sculptural shape, the legs and armrests blend over into each other creating a gap between the seat and the armrest. The carved edges of the frame are delicate and make this chair a little more sophisticated than other designs by the duo. The back consists of spindles that hold the back cushion in a curved, comfortable position.
The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production postwar. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of these machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home.”
These chairs are upholstered in a beige colored floral fabric, which is in good condition. May you prefer another color, reupholstery is possible.
