Guillerme & Chambron, set of lounge chairs in green upholstery and oak, France 1950s.

This French designer duo is known for their extreme high quality solid oak furniture, from which this set is another great example. These chairs have a very interesting shape looking from the side. The armrests are small and pointy whereas the legs and frame blend over into each other, creating a gap between the seat and the armrest. With this design it still keeps its solid expression, but does create an open look. The curved slatted back makes an elegant addition to the angular design. The frame of these chairs is very sculptural with extravagant shapes which provides a beautiful contrast with the original tweed upholstery.

The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production in the Postwar period. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of this machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home”.
