Giuseppe Rivadossi Sofa in Oak with Reupholstered White Cushions
Giuseppe Rivadossi, sofa, fabric, Italy, 1970s
This exceptional sofa, crafted by Italian sculptor and artisan Giuseppe Rivadossi, exemplifies woodworking artistry. The piece is substantial, with a robust wooden structure characterized by a striking geometry of well-defined lines and smoothly rounded contours. One of its defining features is the corpus, adorned with a relief of carved square paneling that extends along its width, imparting depth and texture. The beauty of the oak wood is prominently displayed, showcasing a pronounced grain pattern and a warm radiance. Blankets can be stored inside by opening the seating. Recently reupholstered in white fabric, the cushions add a touch of freshness to the piece. Rivadossi's discerning eye for materiality and technical precision is fully evident in this sofa, underscoring his mastery in creating timeless and exquisite furniture.
Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he still lives and works. At a young age, Rivadossi's path begins with wood carving, with works reflecting on his poetic idea of living. In 1962, Rivadossi took over the carpentry founded in 1920 by his father Clemente, which he transformed into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. Eventually, Rivadossi and collaborators established 'Officina Rivadossi' in 1976 where he started the manufacture of wooden objects and unique modern furniture.
