Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi, sideboard, walnut, Italy, 1980s
An exceptional credenza by the Italian sculptor and designer Giuseppe Rivadossi, featuring a high level of craftsmanship in woodwork. The door panels feature square cutouts, adding a wonderful rhythmic and haptic surface to the front. This sideboard embodies a striking textured surface that is hand carved by gouge cut, which gives this piece its distinctive aesthetics that Rivadossi is known for. This graphical visualization is intensified by the walnut's properties which shows a variety of wood tones. An extraordinary piece, established by intensive hand-planed and trimmed finishes.
Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he still lives and works. At a young age, Rivadossi's path begins with wood carving, with works reflecting on his poetic idea of living. In 1962 Rivadossi took over the carpentry founded in 1920 by his father Clemente, which he transformed into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. Eventually, Rivadossi and collaborators established 'Officina Rivadossi' in 1976 where he started the manufacture of wooden objects and unique modern furniture.
Please note that this item is in good, used condition. One of the doors is a bit wry.
