Giuseppe Pagano Pogatschnig and Gino Levi Montalcini for F.I.P. Torino, lacquered wood, buxus paper, brass, Italy, 1929

This desk was designed by Pagano and Montalcini for Palazzo degli Uffici Gualino. This golden-brown desk on a black base is part of a commissioned project for the Gualino offices in Turin. The desk is interesting not only for its provenance but for the use of material too, as the desk has been covered with buxus paper. A material that was new in that time and features a vividly patterned surface. The desk has three drawers of which one is lockable. Striking visual details are the black wooden handles.

Pogatschnig (1896-1945) graduated in architecture in 1924. In 1927 he was asked to participate in organizing the International Exhibition in 1928. He and other architects designed multiple pavillons. In the same year Pogatschnig and Montalcini got the commission to design an office building. They designed the building as well as the interior like this desk.
