Giuseppe Davanzo for Appiani Selezione, set of six dining chairs 'Serena', ash, plastic, Italy, 1960s
This set of six Italian dining chairs was designed by Giuseppe Davanzo in the 1960s. On an ash frame rest the round seat and backrest. The frame shows a warm tone of the ash wood with black metal connections. The seat and backrest are made out of red plastic, that catches the eye immediately. Due to their roundness, bent edges and their attractive color the chairs have a certain playful character.
Giuseppe Davanzo (1921-2007) was born in Ponte di Piave. After serving in the Second World War, Davanzo studied at the Regio Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice. His work was mostly influenced by Carlo Scarpa and Franco Albini. The designer died in 2007.
