Giovanni Michelucci for Poltronova, ´Torbecchia´ dining chairs, walnut, cane, Italy, circa 1964.
This set of four dining chairs, with its solid and grand appearance, is designed by Italian designer Giovanni Michelucci (1891-1990) as part of the 'Torbecchia' series. The dining chairs have an open construction that adds extra air and transparency to the quite solid set. The wooden frame shows a striking texture by means of the walnut’s properties, adding a visual excitement and a sense of nature. Furthermore, the seat is covered up in rush created by using a weaving technique where long, dried grass-like vegetation is used. In absence of decorative details, the design convinces visually through the well-balanced appearance and the stabile construction. This delicate set truly intensifies the experience of sitting itself and is a standout in any modern room. The chairs are signed on the right outer corner at the back of the seat with 'G. Michelucci'.
