Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina, pair of customizable '849' easy chairs, walnut and leather, Italy, 1956 Wonderful pair of lounge chairs by Gianfrano Frattini for Cassina. This model features a walnut frame which holds the seat and backrest. A shell forms the seat in an elegant way. The other shell forms the backrest, which is also kept in place by the frame. The '849' chair won the design award 'Compasso d'Oro' in 1956. Gianfranco Frattini (1926-2004) was an Italian designer and architect. Similarly to many other architects, Frattini became an interior and industrial designer because he missed the specific furnishings for his buildings. Frattini was a very skilled woodworker and was a student of Gio Ponti. His style can be defined by its architectural structure and playful lines.
