Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina Lounge Chair in Grey Wool and Walnut
Gianfranco Frattini for Cassina, lounge chair model 877, wool, walnut, Italy, 1959
This grand lounge chair is based on a solid construction, featuring strict lines and angular shapes. While the seat convinces with its bulky and voluminous appearance, the wooden frame is surprisingly open and clear. When experienced from the side, a rather pronounced shape forms the sides, which is achieved by the enlarged ears and tilted seat that extends further. Wool fabric composed of off-white and grey colored threads has been used to upholster the armchair.
Gianfranco Frattini (1926-2004) was born in Padua and studied architecture at the Milan Politechnico. After his studies, Frattini started working for Gio Ponti until 1956. Afterwards, he opened his own practice in Milan and began creating his own designs. His work is mostly part of the generation that created the Italian design movement of the late 1950s through the 1960s. The designer eventually died in Milan in 2004.
Please note that the fabric is in good, used condition. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
