Frits Henningsen, sofa in teak and cognac leather, Denmark, 1930s.
This classic sofa was designed and produced by master cabinet maker Frits Henningsen, circa 1930s. The basic design is well balanced, showing an interesting contrast between the straight lines of the solid teak frame and the almost theatrical curves of the armrests. The sofa shows great attention for proportions, as well as the outstanding craftsmanship Henningsen's work is famous for. The comfort provided by this inviting sofa is very pleasant, which is emphasized by the gently curved armrests.
Frits Henningsen (1889-1965) was a cabinet maker. Relatively little has been written about this master cabinet maker. He had his own shop in Copenhagen. His main concerns were the users of his furniture and the solid quality of his work. All his works are by his own workshop.
