Frits Henningsen Sofa in Mahogany and Aqua Green Fabric
Frits Henningsen, sofa in mahogany and green fabric, Denmark, 1930s.
This classic sofa was designed and produced by master cabinet maker Frits Henningsen around the 1930s. The basic design is well balanced, showing an interesting contrast between the straight lines of the solid mahogany frame and the almost theatrical curves of the armrests. The sofa shows great attention for proportions, as well as the outstanding craftsmanship Henningsen's work is famous for. The comfort provided by this inviting sofa is very pleasant, which is emphasized by the gently curved armrests. This specific model is meant to be placed against a wall.
The fabric of this sofa is in used condition with color fading and tears and is necessary to be reupholstered which can be done in our in-house atelier. The professional and experienced craftsmen in our in-house atelier are specialists in the re-upholstery of design furniture. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value.
Frits Henningsen (1889-1965) was a cabinet maker. Relatively little has been written about this master cabinet maker. He had his own shop in Copenhagen. His main concerns were the users of his furniture and the solid quality of his work. All his works are by his own workshop.
