French Sofa in Stainless Steel and Burgundy Velvet Upholstery
Sofa, in steel and fabric, France, late 1960s.
Modern and sleek sofa in stainless steel and velvet pattern upholstery. This sofa has a very strong expression, by the shimmering steel outside. This Industrial base holds the cushions, upholstered in a Classic and warm purple-red colored velvet. The pattern on the fabric makes a nice contrast to the sleek and smooth steel surface.
French steel manufacturer Uginox asked five designers to make a collection of furniture with stainless steel as key element. Designers Francois Monnet, Francoise See, Jacques Charpentier, Michel Boyer and Maria Pergay succeeded to create excellent furniture with this rather new material for the furniture industry. Maria Pergay kept working in stainless steel. She is known for her frivolous and expressive designs in this 'cold' and Industrial material.
