Finn Juhl for France & Co, set of 4 diplomat chairs, rosewood and leather, Denmark, early 1960s.

The chairs were developed being part of the "Diplomatic range" that Juhl designed for France & Co in 1961-62, a range originally produced to furnish Danish embassies and consulates around the world.
The seating and back show a simple and functional design and each chair has a modest aesthetics. The rosewood frame consists of rounded legs and a simplistic frame. This work very well with the slightly curved armrests, featuring Finn Juhl's great eye for details. The combination of the rosewood with the black leather upholstery has a luxurious and sophisticated character.

Finn Juhl (1912-1989), born in Denmark, planned on becoming an art historian when he was young. His father decided it would be a better career move if he went to become an architect. After his architecture degree Juhl worked for ten years with Vilhelm Lauritzen. At the age of 33 Finn Juhl opened his own furniture design practice. In the 1940s he designed a number of creations that regenerated Danish furniture design, and broke with the established furniture tradition. Juhl is known as the one of the most important pioneers of Danish design. He was in fact the first Danish furniture designer to gain widespread international recognition his work was vital to spreading the “Danish Modern” concept around the world. His designs are renown for being exquisitely elegant, refined up until the smallest detail and extremely well executed.

The leather upholstery is in good condition. Please note we also have a large set of 9 other diplomat chairs in our collection. In case you are interested to combine these sets to make it one large set, ask one of our advisors for more information regarding availability and reupholstery.
