Finn Juhl for Søren Willadsen Møbel-Fabrik, easy chair, model SW 86, teak, oak, wool, Denmark, 1953.

This chair has been designed in 1953 by Finn Juhl. This chair is one of the three designs by Juhl that were produced by Søren Willadsen. This easy chair is defined by the thick, wide armrests that run all the way behind the back and that is wrapped around the frame. Another interesting feature is the connective teak rod that connects the armrests to the underlying oak frame. This rod is tapered towards both ends and besides adding a constructive stability to the frame, it is an aesthetic element that adds a sculptural detail to this lounge chair. And last but not least, it is very comfortable to sit in, it's larger than the average lounge chair which means extra space to make it yourself comfortable. Upholstered in soft off-white wool of the finest quality.

Finn Juhl (1912-1989), born in Denmark, planned on becoming an art historian when he was young. His father however decided it would be a better career move if he went to become an architect. After his architecture degree Juhl worked for ten years with Vilhelm Lauritzen. At the age of thirty-three Finn Juhl opened his own furniture design practice. In the 1940s he designed a number of creations that regenerated Danish furniture design, and broke with the established furniture tradition. Juhl is known as the one of the most important pioneers of Danish design. He was in fact the first Danish furniture designer to gain widespread international recognition. His work was vital to spreading the “Danish Modern” concept around the world. His designs are re-known for being exquisitely elegant, refined up until the smallest detail and extremely well executed.

Please note that we advise reupholstery before use. This can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsman in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come.
