Erik Glemme, stools, teak, leather, Sweden, 1940s.

Unique pair of custom made stools designed by Erik Glemme. The inspiration for this design was drawn from a folding chair, except these stools cannot be enclosed. Its slender frame is executed in the finest teak. The wooden joinery is absolutely stunning and proves Glemme's excellent craftsmanship. The seating is made of thick black leather, showing a patina suitable for its age, and is attached with five leather strip endings on each side. Rounded openings are visible, that function as an elegant decoration as well. The National Museum in Copenhagen has a folding chair in their collection, known to be one of the oldest preserved pieces of Scandinavian funiture. It was found in the burial mound at Vamdrup. This piece dates from approximate 1300 BC.
