Emiel Veranneman for DeCoene Decor ‘Stereo’ Sideboard in Magenta

Emiel Veranneman for DeCoene Decor, ‘Stereo’ cabinet, lacquered wood, Belgium, 1980s

Well-known Belgian furniture designer Emiel Veranneman (1924-2003) originally created this rare, delicate ‘Stereo’ sideboard for a Japanese department store located in Tokyo. There are many unique features about the ‘Stereo’. It combines a strong color scheme with a bold composition of geometric shapes and volumes, resulting in a grand expression. The two doors show a relief of triangles with round sides. The arrangement of fragments is emphasized by different levels, creating a haptic and visual excitement. Emiel Veranneman designed the interior in magenta color too, giving differently organized interior a luxurious feel. Another feature are the front doors that slide into the sideboard when accessing the shelves.

A DeCoene Decor label is located on the inside of the front door. Additionally, the back of the sideboard shows the signature of the artists and the number ‘1/6’, meaning that this particular piece was the first item made in a series of six.

Emiel Veranneman (1924-2003) had a very important role in the art scene of Belgium. After the Second World War, he began his career in designing furniture. Because of his vision and creativity, his work is often indistinguishable from art. However, throughout his career, he designed pieces without compromising their functionality.

Please note that the lacquer misses some little chips. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized restoration is possible as well.
