Pair of armchairs, oak, velvet, The Netherlands, 1930s
These Dutch Art Deco pair of chairs bear strong traits of the aesthetic language of the 'Hague School' from the Interbellum. During this period between two world wars, this modern style of design emerged in The Hague. It features architectural forms, with the straight-sided, Cubist shapes of the furniture. This rare pair of armchairs has a very sturdy yet elegant shape due to its combination of the geometric lines of the dark stained oak frame and velvet upholstering. Although sober in form, the Art Deco style of these chairs radiate elegance and taste.
