Dutch Abstract Transparent Layered Cube 1985
Artwork, wooden pedestal with perspex cube and layers in blue white and red by Maria Westra, The Netherlands, 1985.
This cubistic abstract piece is derived from Westra's interest in monumental fabrics and weaving. Westra's main interest lies in the design of textiles. This material based interest is what is clearly visible in this sculpture by Westra in which she used a thread-based design that she layered on top of one another. This play of lines and space gives this artwork a vibrant and spacious look.
