Sculptural fiberglass bench designed by Douglas Deeds for Architectural Fiberglass. The fiberglass is molded into a sculptural shape, creating a minimal bench that can be used indoors as well as outdoors. Architectural Fiberglass (a division of Architectural Pottery that was established in 1961) was run by Max Lawrence, who with his company, had a significant share in the development of the post-war Mid-Century style of California. He manufactured innovative geometrical shapes in ceramics, but also experimented with the use of fiberglass to create new and interesting forms. Douglas Deeds embraced these innovative materials and served as the director of Architectural Fiberglass from the early 1960s. Not only Deeds designs in fiberglass were in demand, but iconic designs by Elsie Crawford were also brought to market by the company as well.
